IGF Annual General Meeting 2016 in Geneva

The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals, and Sustainable Development was hosted on October 24–28, 2016 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Helle Bank Jorgensen was a panelist at the forum on the topic of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, along with Sharon Peake, Director, Natural Resources and Governance, Global Affairs Canada; Gifty Biyira, Director of Finance and Administration, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Government of Ghana; and Carlos Salazar Couto, Executive Director, SOCIOS Peru.

The session provided an overview of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights standard (VPs) and how it can help advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth) by providing a practical tool for governments and companies to improve their practices on security and human rights and make those practices more predictable.
